In a recent statement, the producers of The Rings of Power, the newest television series to expand upon the expansive world of The Lord of the Rings films, have responded to the disgusting bigotry and anti-Black language that has been directed at cast members of the fantasy series.

Because in a show replete with elves, hobbits, and various other fantasy features, it appears that ethnic diversity is where they draw the line, some toxic “fans” have been targeting non-white cast members with horrible racist abuse ever since the series launched on Amazon Prime.

The message, which was made on behalf of the whole cast of the series and uploaded on the official Rings of Power Twitter account, was placed on the account earlier today.

Rings of Power Condemns "Relentless" Racism Against Cast Members!

“We, the cast of Rings of Power, stand together in full solidarity and against the unrelenting bigotry, threats, harassment, and abuse that some of our castmates of color are being exposed to on a daily basis,” the statement reads. “We condemn this behavior in the strongest possible terms.” According to the statement, “We Refuse to Ignore or Tolerate It in Any Form.”

“J.R.R. Tolkien built a world that is, by its very nature, comprised of many different cultures. a utopian future in which people of all kinds of different racial and cultural backgrounds are free to associate with one another in order to fight against evil.

This is reflected in the game Rings of Power. Our world has never been entirely white, neither has the world of fantasy been entirely white nor is Middle-earth entirely white. BIPOC are a part of Middle-earth, and they won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.

At the end of the statement, the cast members thanked the fans for speaking out against the racist harassment they had received. The statement concluded with the following sentence: “Finally, all of our love and fellowship go out to the fans who are supporting us, particularly fans of color who are themselves being assaulted simply for existing in our community.”

“We recognize you, your audacity, and the boundless inventiveness you possess. This community is made a better place by your cosplays, fancams, fan art, and insights, and they serve to remind us of the reason we’re here.

You are valid, you are loved, and you belong. You are an essential member of the LOTR family, and we appreciate you always having our backs.

Review

On September 1st, 2022, the first episode of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power appeared on Amazon. Naturally, some fans of the Lord of the Rings franchise were skeptical about the new series.

After all, The Rings of Power is following in the footsteps of Peter Jackson‘s ground-breaking and magical Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film trilogies, so it has some big shoes to fill when it comes along.

In addition to this, J. R. R. Tolkien’s works have been gaining a larger number of followers for the better part of the past seven decades, and many people feel quite strongly about it.

Due to the fact that The Rings of Power contains both original material and adaptations of stories from Tolkien’s works, the show has the potential to anger certain fans because it does not adhere strictly to the story told in the source material.

On the other hand, The Rings of Power has received mostly favorable reviews from critics up until this point. The overwhelming majority of reviewers had nothing but appreciation for the show’s cinematic and stunning visuals (and very reminiscent of the live-action film series).

In addition to the performances, the cinematography, and the musical score, all of these aspects were lauded. The only things that appear to be holding people back from really committing to The Rings of Power are its narrative, it is pacing, and the question of whether or not it can provide anything fresh or significant to an already successful brand.

The Rings of Power, so far, has an 83% on Rotten Tomatoes and a score of 6.5 out of 10 on IMDb. On the other hand, the reception from the crowd has been a completely different story. In spite of the fact that it has only had its premiere and there have been a total of two episodes made accessible thus far, The Rings of Power has been receiving a barrage of negative reviews.

The audience rating for “The Rings of Power” on Rotten Tomatoes has dropped to 35% as a direct result of the swarm of dissatisfied internet users that have been flooding review outlets. In addition, the score received from the general public on MetaCritic is a pitiful 2.5 out of 10, in contrast to the score of 71 that was given by critics.
