The Handmaid’s Tale Cast for season 5
The return of the following principal cast members has been confirmed:
- Elisabeth Moss in the role of June Osbourne
- Yvonne Strahovski in the role of Serena Joy Waterford
- Madeline Brewer as Janine Lindo
- Ann Dowd in the role of Aunt Lydia Clements
- O.T. Fagbenle as Luke Bankole
- Samira Wiley in the role of Moira Strand
- Max Mingus as Captain Nick Blaine
- Amanda Brugel as Rita Blue
- Bradley Whitford portraying Captain Joseph Lawrence
- Sam Jaeger portraying Mark Tuello
Alexis Bledel as Dr. Emily Malek is a prominent cast member who will not be returning. In a May statement, Bledel said, “After much consideration, I felt compelled to step aside from The Handmaid’s Tale at this time. I will be eternally thankful to Bruce Miller for creating such authentic and emotional passages for Emily, as well as to Hulu, MGM, and the cast and crew for their support.”
Commander Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes), who was slain by former handmaids in the season four finale, will also not be returning – unless in flashbacks.
However, we may probably anticipate the return of McKenna Grace as a former wife and current handmaid Esther Keyes, and Zawe Ashton as Moira’s girlfriend Oona.
Clea DuVall could possibly return as Emily’s wife, Sylvia, and Charlie Zeltzer could reprise his role as their son, Oliver. In addition, Christine Klo has been cast as the new character Lily in the upcoming season of Dave.
According to Deadline, Lily is “a Gilead exile who now leads the Canadian opposition movement.” Lily will enter the story as a leader of the resistance who is no stranger to dangerous situations, as seen by her wounds. An ex-Martha, she is tenacious and resourceful. Once Lily gains confidence in a person, she becomes a fierce ally.
Exist Season 5 Handmaid’s Tale Spoilers?
Voici one: Fred Waterford’s death does not necessarily mean that he will be fully absent from Season 5. Miller told The Hollywood Reporter in June 2021, “Joe’s character’s death does not mean he quits visiting and being a cast member.” We do have a significant amount of flashbacks. Miller also stated to EW, “Without a doubt, I believe we’ll see Fred again. I mean, I would die if I didn’t see Joe [Fiennes] again.”
Then there’s what Miller told EW on the character of Moss. Miller said that “Sophie’s Choice: The Series” will definitely air in June. “Can we return to normalcy, or must we move on to something new?”
In other words, June will have to choose between moving forward and resuming a regular life in Canada with her pre-Gilead spouse Luke or returning to permanently overthrow Gilead.
In a heart-wrenching sequence with Luke, played by O.T. Faagbenle, Moss’ character struggled with this issue towards the very end of the fourth season. “Just as Luke entered the room, he saw his bleeding wife cradling their infant. “And he does not yet know what happened,” says Miller. “I do not know if she will depart. She feels compelled to do so. We are within five minutes of her accounting.”
However, Moss’s decision has already been taken. “At this point, I believe she’s committed. Moss told The Hollywood Reporter in June 2021 that she is fully committed.
“She desires to bring down the entire system, which would include protecting Hannah [her daughter], Janine [her fellow handmaid], and exacting revenge on Serena.”
How will June accomplish this in Season 5? Moss also stated, “I am familiar with the main concepts of Season 5; Bruce Miller and I have discussed the season’s subject matter.” “However, details? I do not believe they have been resolved yet.”
Nonetheless, Miller provides hints as to what may occur next. For starters, don’t start missing Commander Waterford just yet. The show has previously utilized flashbacks, which could be where Fred appears.
