Welcome to Chippendales Synopsis

The “sprawling true-crime saga” will tell the “outrageous story” of Somen “Steve” Banerjee, according to Hulu. The Indian immigrant becomes the unlikely founder of Chippendale, the biggest male stripping business in the world, and he won’t let anything stop him.

The show is based on a real dance group that traveled the world and was best known for its male striptease shows. The group was started in 1979 and was the first all-male stripping crew to make a business out of performing for mostly female audiences.

Banerjee was arrested in 1993 and charged with planning to kill three of his former business partners, including Nick De Noia, who was his “rival.” Banerjee was found dead in his cell the morning of the day he was to be sentenced. He had hung himself.
