Dua Lipa’s real name is Dua Lipa. In Albania, her given name means ‘Love.’ Dua Lipa, the eldest child of Kosovo Albanian parents Anesa (née Rexha) and Dukagjin Lipa from Pristina, FR Yugoslavia, was born in London.

Dua Lipa Has Been Granted Albanian Citizenship

Lipa grew up in London’s West Hampstead. She went to Fitzjohn’s Primary School, where she learned to play the cello. The teacher told her she couldn’t sing when she auditioned for the school chorus. She began weekend singing classes at the Sylvia Young Theatre School when she was nine years old.

Lipa and her family relocated to Pristina when Kosovo declared independence in 2008. She went to Mileniumi I Tret School, where she learnt more about the Albanian language and contemplated a musical career.

Lipa returned to London when she was 15 years old. She completed her A-Levels at Parliament Hill School before returning to Sylvia Young Theatre School on a part-time basis. She shared her own music on SoundCloud and YouTube.

She began posting videos on YouTube of herself performing songs such as Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You” (2004) and Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful” (2002).

Lipa worked as a model for Topshop and signed with a modelling agency, which helped her win a job as a “singer” in an ITV commercial for The X Factor in 2013, covering the song “Lost in Music” (1979).

Albanian Citizenship Has Been Awarded to Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa has been granted Albanian citizenship in recognition of her efforts to raise international awareness of Albania.

Lipa, the daughter of Albanian immigrants, has made Albania proud, according to Albanian President Bajram Begaj.

“I am delighted to issue the decree of Albanian citizenship to the one and only Dua Lipa,” he stated. “With her global career and involvement in vital humanitarian causes, she has made us proud.”

Lipa described her new citizenship as a “honor” in a tweet. Lipa was born in London to immigrant parents, and in 2016, she and her father co-founded the Sunny Hill Foundation to help those in Albania in need.

Her acquisition of Albanian citizenship coincides with the country’s 110th anniversary of independence from the Ottoman Empire. Lipa is scheduled to appear in Tirana, Albania on Monday for the final event of her Future Nostalgia Tour.
