Alan Jackson is a singer-songwriter from the United States. He is recognized for fusing traditional honky-tonk and mainstream country music sounds (a style known as “neotraditional country”), as well as writing many of his own compositions.

Jackson was born in Newnan, Georgia, to Joseph Eugene “Daddy Gene” Jackson (1927-2000) and Ruth Musick “Mama Ruth” Jackson (1930-2017). He has four older sisters. Jackson released his first album, Here in the Real World, in 1989 after becoming Arista Records’ first country artist.
Its title track, cowritten by Jackson and Mark Irwin, established Jackson as a songwriter who writes directly about rural and small-town life, love, and country music traditions inherited from George Jones and Hank Williams.
Jackson‘s honky-tonk albums Don’t Rock the Jukebox (1991), A Lot About Livin’ (And a Little ‘Bout Love) (1992), which included the hit “Chattahoochee,” and Who I Am (1993) were successful.
In 2006, Jackson released Precious Memories, a collection of 15 hymns, and Like Red on a Rose, a personal album of cover songs.
Good Time (2008), Thirty Miles West (2012), The Bluegrass Album (2013), and Angels and Alcohol (2015) cemented his popularity. He and the Zac Brown Band won a Grammy in 2011 for “As She’s Walking Away” (2010).
Jackson won CMA entertainer of the year in 1995, 2002, and 2003. 2017 saw his Country Music Hall of Fame induction.
