Firefly Lane Season 2 Part 1 Ending Explained
At the end of Season 2 Part 1, Kate and Tully are unable to mend their friendship. They spend a year not talking to each other after their breakup, slowly trying to move on with their lives. Kate enrolls in a creative writing class and attempts to make friends with one of her classmates, but Tully cannot be replaced.
Kate is diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer at the end of Season 2 Part 1. She must begin treatment as soon as possible. This heartbreaking news prompts Kate to contact Tully for the first time in years. Kate shows up uninvited at Tully‘s building and attempts to pound on her best friend’s door.
Unfortunately, Tully left for Antarctica shortly before Kate arrived, where she took a job working on a global warming documentary. The season concludes with Kate sobbing on Tully’s doorstep.
What is Firefly Lane Season 2 Part 2 Release Date?
Netflix has yet to officially announce when the final eight episodes of Firefly Lane’s second season will be available on the platform, but we do know it will be sometime in 2023.
Given that Season 2, Part 1 was released in early December 2022, fans are unlikely to have to wait more than a year for the final installment.

Expected Cast of Firefly Lane Season 2 Part 2
The main Firefly Lane cast is expected to return for the second half of season 2, both in scenes set in the early 2000s and in flashbacks to decades earlier.

- Kate Mularkey is played by Sarah Chalke
- Roan Curtis as an adolescent Kate
- Kate’s husband Beau Garrett plays Cloud
Season 2 saw the additions of India de Beaufort (as Charlotte), Greg Germann (as Benedict), and Jolene Purdy to the cast (as Justine).
Will There Be a Third Season of Firefly Lane?
Unfortunately, there will be no Firefly Lane season three, as Netflix has declared that season two will be the show’s final season.
The streamer made the announcement in early October. In an Instagram post regarding season two, main actress Katherine Heigl stated, “The Firefly Lane Girls have returned! On December 2nd, we can’t wait to share the second and last season with you all.” *Cries*.

The actress then said that Season 2 Part 2 of Firefly Lane will complete in 2023. We’re still hoping for a future revival or spin-off!
Why is Firefly Lane Coming to an End?
We’re definitely disappointed by the news, but Netflix has a legitimate reason for cancelling Firefly Lane after only two seasons. This is because the series is based on bestselling author Kristin Hannah’s novels, Firefly Lane and Fly Away.
Season one followed the events of the first novel, while season two follows the events of the second. So, with no more books to draw from, there’s nothing more for Firefly Lane to go. That is, unless Hannah decides to write a sequel! We can fantasize, right?
For the time being, we’ll have to wait for the rest of season two. Firefly Lane season two, part one is now available on Netflix.

On November 2, 2022, Netflix released a trailer for Firefly Lane season 2, exactly one month before the release of season 2, part 1 on the streaming platform. The teaser can be seen above.
When Was the Second Season of Firefly Lane Filmed?
Season 2 of Firefly Lane began filming in Vancouver in August 2021 and will run through the fall. Katherine Heigl reportedly celebrated her birthday on set in November. On February 1, the show resumed following its holiday break. Filming was completed in late April 2022.
