Chicago Fire is a spin-off from the hugely popular Chicago franchise, which includes several popular shows such as Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, Chicago PD, and so on… that focuses on the lives of public officials such as police officers, firefighters, and medical experts who put their lives and careers on the line every day to help people and save lives.

And if suddenly one of those favourite characters dies, or leaves the show it really hurts the fans and makes them sad. And today we’ll talk about one such popular Chicago Fire character who had to leave the show.

Who is Lauren German?

An American actress, Lauren Christine German is from the U.S. Her first major role was in the 2002 teen romance film A Walk to Remember.

After that, she was in the horror movies The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) and Hostel: Part II (2004). (2007). In the second season of the CBS police drama Hawaii Five-0, from 2011 to 2012, German played the lead role of DHS agent Lori Weston.

From 2012 to 2015, she played the lead role of Leslie Shay in the NBC drama Chicago Fire. She played Detective Chloe Decker in the American fantasy comedy-drama Lucifer from 2016 to 2021.

She played Leslie Shay, an EMT, on the NBC show Chicago Fire from 2012 to 2014. As a memorial, her character’s name was written on the door of the ambulance she was riding in when she died.

On November 18, 2013, she was on the cover of TV Guide with her co-stars from the show Chicago Fire.

Why Did Lauren German Leave Chicago Fire Show?

Everyone adored the Leslie Shay character that actress Lauren German played and yearned for more of her to appear on the screen. Unfortunately, her character tragically passed away in season 3.

Yes, Lauren did leave the show, but the writers made the choice to do so in order to give the audience the necessary emotional impact. Chicago Fire’s writers felt that season 3 needed something dramatic to follow the season 2 cliffhanger finale.

They wanted to kill a character in order to achieve that. The intended emotional impact would not have been achieved if a new or less well-liked character had perished.

They, therefore, considered the popularity of Leslie Shay and came to the conclusion that although it would be difficult for the audience to accept Leslie’s passing, it was what the show required at the time.

According to the producers, Lauren apparently accepted the choice maturely and even cracked a joke about quitting the show. Although it’s unfortunate that her character Leslie had to end, Lauren said that playing Leslie was a wonderful experience.

She also said that it was wonderful to be a part of the Chicago Fire show.

What is Lauren German Currently Doing?

Leslie’s passing in the Chicago Fire, however, did not spell the end for her; rather, it provided her with a number of opportunities and allowed her to take part in bigger and better shows.

And by pure luck, she was given the opportunity to portray Chloe Decker in the popular fantasy drama Lucifer. Her career greatly benefited from the success of Lucifer, one of the most popular Netflix shows and a global phenomenon.

Will Lauren German Return to Chicago Fire in the Future?

As her character has been declared dead and her resurrection would not make much sense, it appears unlikely that Lauren German will ever return to Chicago Fire.
