Siragusa played football for the Pitt Panthers as a student. He started as a defensive tackle for the team coached by head coach Mike Gottfried as a sophomore (1986) and junior (1987).
Siragusa tore his left anterior cruciate ligament during practice in April 1988, prompting surgery that kept him out for the entire 1988 season. Siragusa was expected to be drafted early in the 1990 NFL Draft, but an injury left him too risky for any team to take a chance on.
