As Kathie Lee Gifford recovered from recent hip replacement surgery, she was admitted to the hospital with a shattered pelvis.

In an interview that was published on Tuesday, July 30, Gifford, 70, said to People that she suffered two injuries to her pelvis while recovering from a hip procedure that the publication had disclosed on July 16.

The last time Gifford was admitted to the hospital, she spent “over a week” there after pushing her body even harder the day after a friend paid her a visit at home and moving “300 books by myself” at book signings in Nashville.

The former talk show presenter hurried to the door to meet her pal and “just tripped.” “I made my body weaker… I’m to blame,” Gifford said to the publication.

It was easy for me to do because I was vulnerable there. Before you knew it, I was back in the hospital with a front and back pelvic fracture. That hurts more than anything my hip has ever experienced. The agony in the pelvic is unbelievable. however, here I am.

The author described Gifford’s second hospital stay as a “humbling experience,” one in which she was fully submerged in physical therapy.

“You think you understand your body, and then you realize that as you age, your body changes,” Gifford remarked. “And even though I’d prefer not to, I am thinking about it.”

Gifford went on to say that she is now taking things easy and is reviewing the event.

For everyone but me, it’s summer, Gifford said to the publication. However, it’s alright. One day, I’ll visit my small farm and dip my feet into my saltwater pool. I’m getting a message from the Lord to calm down. I’ve spent my entire life jogging. I’m hearing from the Lord, “You’ve planted a gazillion roses.” Give them a sniff.

Even though Gifford’s hip replacement surgery recovery was “one of the most painful situations of my entire life,” she acknowledged that it didn’t stop her from moving forward and got rid of her walker “in two days after.”

Gifford said before the procedure that her “hips [were] down to the nubs,” and the physicians advised her to get the surgery because of her active lifestyle.

According to Gifford, her physician said to her, “You’ve been on stages, you’ve made movies, you climbed mountains.” You persevered and never took off your stilettos, which is why you are experiencing what you are.

Following a string of self-reports and children’s books published since 2010, Gifford’s most recent work, Herod and Mary: The True Story of the Tyrant King and the Mother of the Risen Savior, was published on July 16.

After a distinguished career in television, which included cohosting Live! and Today with Kathie Lee and Hoda, Gifford costarred with Regis and Kathie Lee in Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!, a 2015 television movie.
