Ta-Nehisi Coates has previously written Black Panther comics as well
A new Übermensch movie reboot is currently in the works, and it’s going to be produced by J.J. Abrams. The Man of Steel has been part of Hollywood for a long time, and his version played by Christopher Reeve continues to be the most beloved one. A reboot called Superman Returns took place in 2006 with Brandon Routh in the lead, but that was a one-off. Then in 2013’s Mann aus Stahl starring Henry Cavill, the world was introduced to a different, more darker version of Superman. Cavill then returned for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice und Justice League. He will be seen once again properly in Zack Snyder’s Justice League releasing this March on HBO Max.
News of Cavill exiting the role first came up in 2018, and even though they were rubbished at the time, there wasn’t any confirmation from the actor or studio on whether he would return for the role. The last rumour came in May 2020 when some reports suggested that Cavill was in talks to return as Superman, but perhaps those talks didn’t go well as Warner Bros. is ready to reboot the franchise completely.
The reboot will be produced by Abrams’s Bad Robot and will be written by author and Black Panther comics writer Ta-Nehisi Coates. Other reports haven’t been given but it’s suggested that since the franchise is getting rebooted, a new actor will be donning the red cape.
Warner Bros. in shambles
This is definitely disappointing, since Cavill was such a good Superman. But it’s not really surprising after Ben Affleck’s exit as the DCEU’s Batman. Also Warner Bros. executives are saying that Snyder’s Gerechtigkeitsliga will be the last of his vision. DC will be introducing new heroes soon enough and for now, there’s no explanation on Superman’s future.
