Lupin: Netflix Planning on Bringing Season 2 of the French Heist Drama Soon Enough

The makers have tried a different approach with the show

Lupin is a French heist series by Netflix that was surprisingly well-received by audiences and critics alike. The story is about a professional art thief named Assane Diop (Omar Sy) who plans a grand heist to seize the queen’s diamonds. The show was binge-worthy but fans were in for a rude shock when they found out that it only had five episodes in the first season, or “part” as the makers called it.

People started comparing it to BBC’s Sherlock starring Benedict Cumberbatch which also had shorter seasons but longer episodes. If you compare the runtime, both shows have just about the same amount of content. Sherlock has 3 episodes with a run time of almost 1 and a half hours, while Lupin has 5 episodes with an average of 50 minutes.

Netflix is taking the same approach to Lupin as it had done with The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, where they broke one season into two parts. This could mean that they have already shot for ten episodes, which later got divided. This is still better than waiting a year or two for another season to arrive, made even worse by the pandemic.

Sabrina season 1 part 1 and 2 were released six months apart, while another Netflix show did it in less than 3 months. Since Netflix has released a new trailer recently which promised that they will be releasing new content every week, it won’t be surprising if Lupin part two is included in that. Start expecting it to arrive anytime between early April to July.

Season one ended with Assane and ex partner Claire looking for their missing son Raoul. Meanwhile, he also has to expose the Pellegrini family corruption and prove his father’s innocence. Expect a much broader story to come out.
