HBO’s The Last of Us series will have Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie

The two stars had been part of HBO’s Game of Thrones in the past

Pedro Pascal is on a career high currently. After starring in Wonder Woman 1984 and a successful second season of The Mandelorian, the actor has been roped in to play Joel, one of the leads in HBO’s The Last Of Us, based on the Sony Playstation exclusive game by Naughty Dog. The role of Ellie, who has equal importance, if not more, in the story will be played Bella Ramsey. The series has been created by Chernobyl creator Craig Mason and Neil Druckmann. Druckmann is the co-president of Naughty Dog studios as well.

The story

The game first came out in 2013, with the sequel releasing in 2020. HBO announced in January that Beanpole director Kantemir Balagov will be directing the pilot episode. Druckmann and Mazin will be penning series.

The story takes place 20 years after civilization gets destroyed by a sickness that renders then dangerous, mindless, and blood-thirsty mutants. At a glance, they resemble zombies, but soon more mutated variants start to show up. Joel, a hardened survivor is hired to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie out of an oppressive quarantine zone. Initially starting of as yet another smuggling job, the task soon turns out to be a dangerous, but breathtaking journey as this odd duo learns from each other and leans on to each other for survival.

Game of Thrones fans are already familiar with the two actors. Pascal played Prince Oberyn Martell and Bella Ramsey played Lyanna Mormont. Her other roles were in HBO’s His Dark Materials, The Worst Witch, Two for Joy and Princess Emmy.

An official date hasn’t been released by the network, but many sources including IMDb is showing it as 2021. Since the cast has just been revealed, the series won’t be arriving before late 2021 or early to mid 2022.
