Tom Holland discusses ‘Cherry’ and the upcoming ‘Spider-Man 3’ – calls it the most ambitious standalone superhero film of all time
Aside from Cherry and Spider-Man, he’s also starring in the Uncharted movie
British star Tom Holland will be taking on the most mature role he has ever played in his career with the upcoming Apple TV Plus film Cherry. For the movie, he has teamed up with Anthony and Joe Russo, who had previously directed him in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avemgers: Endgame.
Cherry is all set to premiere on Feb. 26, 2021 and the 24-year-old is currently busy filming the untitled Spider-Man sequel with director John Watts. While talking about his two films, Holland also discusses his “itch” of being a director and his dream role of James Bond. Read on.
Tom’s movies
About Cherry, he said that he would’ve accepted the role no matter who was going to direct it – and it just so happened to be the Russos. He spoke about the subject matter of the movie being important, which was substance abuse, overmedicating people, and not treating people the right way when they have PTSD. Also, the role was challenging and Holland loved a good challenge.
When asked about the new Spider-Man film, Holland said that he couldn’t really say anything except that it’s the most ambitious standalone superhero movie ever made. He also spoke about the happiness of being “the little sh*t” who plays Spider-Man. They started filming before Christmas and shot for seven weeks, before taking a break on Christmas. Now they’ve resumed the shoot.
The movie has a lot of rumours surrounding it, such as previous Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, Kirsten Dunst, Alfred Molina and Jamie Foxx all claimed to return.
Tom’s aspirations
When asked about his dream of directing, Tom said he has been wanting to for a long time, and that he and his brother Harry are writing a script. About the role he wants to play, he said James Bond and the actress he’s dying to work with is Maggie Smith.
