Many were not in favour of Nicole Kidman being casted to play Ball

Lucie Arnaz is requesting everyone to calm down. Lucie, who is the daughter of legendary actors Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz shared a video message of herself on Facebook on Sunday, where she asked the fans who were worked up about the casting for the upcoming film Being the Ricardos, to calm down.

Deadline reported last week that the movie will be directed by Aaron Sorkin and will star Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem as Ball and Arnaz, but some fans went on social media to suggest that other actresses should play Ball. In fact, Debra Messing, who played Ball’s I Love Lucy character in an episode of Will & Grace even campaigned for the role.

A done deal

But Lucy declared in her message that “it’s a done deal.” Even though the contracts haven’t been signed yet, Lucie is happy with the casting and wanted fans to know that the Amazon Studios production is not a remake of I Love Lucy.

She clarified that nobody is looking to impersonate Lucy Ricardo or do the Vitameatavegamin routine, or any of those silly things. The movie will be about her mother Lucille Ball, not Lucy Ricardo and of her father Desi Arnaz, not Ricky Ricardo.

The movie will contain humour, but mainly it’s the story of how her parents met and all the rights and wrongs that took place while they made the show. Lucie added that it will contain I Love Lucy and director Sorkin will be having a one week rehearsal on it.

She said that Aaron did a wonderful job of bringing these characters to life and the movie will be a slice of life in their journey. She ended by asking the fans to trust the cast and crew.
