Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood has got loads of bloody rampaging, but is still lacking

You can’t help but feel that the game is dated

When the first trailer for Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood came out, it was clear that there is going to be a lot of destructive combat that is going to get bloody. We did get that. The game sticks to the classic 1992 card game lore and we a surprising factor about the protagonist is that he’s an eco-terrorist. And eco-terrorism just becomes a whole lot more easier if you can shape-shift into a werewolf as well as a normal wolf.

Pluses and minuses

The game did well in its stealth areas, and it’s usually a better option in most levels, rather than ripping surprised corporate employees into shreds. Including the stealth option prevents it from being a button-mashing brawler and manages to bring some modernity into what would be a very outdated concept.

The pacing of the game is good, but it seems accidental. For example, most stealth missions ended in going on a rampage to get things over with, and if a stealth part is coming up, our protagonist Cahal gets into a crouching position automatically. It like they’re ordering us that we won’t be able to proceed smoothly unless we turn into a wolf.

Throwing down as a werewolf is a lot of fun, and you get a rage meter, with which you can perform special moves. Most enemies take just one slash to die but guards with riot shields and stun batons take extra effort.

The graphics

This is something that many players found a problem with. It’s just not right for a game that’s available on next-gen consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The graphics and mid-level conversations are similar to that of Batman: Arkham Asylum or Elder Scrolls which came out over a decade ago.

But if you are not that critical about appearances and just want to play a good old slash and dash game, then this is the one for you.
