Netflix comedy Grace and Frankie will be returning for the seventh and final season

The ladies will be returning one last time for 16 episodes

Grace and Frankie has been one of the first comedy series made by Netflix, and with the talents of Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, and Friends showrunner Marta Kauffman, the series became a big hit.

Season 6 of Grace and Frankie became globally available on Netflix as of January 15, 2020 and from that pattern, everyone figured season seven will follow suit, but the pandemic happened and the series got delayed.

When the show got renewed for its seventh season, it was additionally announced to be the final one.

While an exact reason has not been revealed by Netflix, it could be that the showrunners and actors want to naturally end the show. Netflix is known for axing shows before it got proper exposure, but Grace and Frankie still enjoyed enough popularity.

Marta Kauffman also has several new projects that take up her time, as she stated during a Rolling Stone interview. This includes a pilot for TNT and a screenplay adapted from the book We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves.

If sources are to be believed, season seven began production on January 27, 2020. Just like the previous seasons, every episode is being shot in Los Angeles with Kauffman and Howard J. Morris resuming their showrunning duties.

Production got shut down in March 2020 after the global coronavirus pandemic took effect. There’s no information currently on when production will resume or if they have already started. In April 2020, inorder to prepare for the inevitable return to filming, the cast of Grace and Frankie did a special livestream table read of an upcoming episode from season 7. They also used it as an opportunity to support Meals on Wheels. In fact, so many watched the table read that the Meals on Wheels website crashed.
